Museums at Schloss Stainz The Hunting Museum presents the multi-faceted cultural history of hunting and exciting natural history. The Agriculture Museum shows the development of agricultural and forestry work from pre-industrial times to the present day. The Erzherzog Johann Museum is dedicated to the progressive initiatives and eventful life of Archduke Johann.

Blooming Fields

Into the Blue

Five flowering crops are the focus of this exhibition at Schloss Stainz: flax, potatoes, scarlet butter beans, pumpkins and corn. The exhibition ranges from the cultural history of these crops, their significance for the indigenous populations in their regions of origin, their appropriation by explorers and conquerors, through to their subsequent establishment in Europe.

Three museums at one site

2006

The Hunting Museum in Schloss Stainz is opened. Today, the hunting collection at the Universalmuseum Joanneum is the largest of its kind in Austria.

2009

The exhibition of the Agriculture Museum is being redesigned. The focus is on the development of Styrian agriculture and forestry.

2024

With the opening of the new Erzherzog Johann Museum, the Universalmuseum Joanneum will be enriched by a further museum, which deals with the life and work of its founder on around 650 m² of exhibition space.
